Commercial outdoor lighting has been evolving over the years, and it is no longer restricted to simply utilitarian purposes with unattractive lighting options. Much of today’s outdoor lighting bulbs and fixtures used for commercial application are aesthetically pleasing, although the traditional lighting options are still available for applications in which appearance is not as important. Outdoor lighting can be beautiful and provide safety and security for customers or employees.

Regardless of the size of the commercial building, there are numerous types of lighting fixtures available to provide business owners with the most favorable lighting possible. In addition, thanks to the many recent advances in technology, commercial outdoor lighting can also be environmentally friendly.

Choosing the right bulb for the business’ commercial outdoor lighting needs is an excellent starting point. Metal halide, high pressure sodium bulbs and LED lights are just a few choices available. Metal halide lighting is recommended for areas in which it is necessary for passer-bys to see the areas true colors or the colors that consumers would see during daylight hours.

While high pressure sodium bulbs tend to be more efficient and last longer than metal halide lighting, high pressure sodium bulbs do not let passers-by see the true colors of the area. These types of bulbs, while durable, emit an orange or gold colored light. LED lights provide excellent lighting for a fraction of the cost of traditional lighting. LED lights also require less maintenance and are quite durable.

Flood lights, high bay lamps, vandal proof lighting and landscape lighting are all types of commercial outdoor lighting. Flood lights may be installed for safety or security measures. High bay lamps are a great option for commercial buildings with high ceilings because these lamps emit concentrated lighting. Low bay lamps are also available and are generally recommended for building with lower ceilings or smaller spaces. Vandal proof lighting is available for outdoor areas such as carports and gymnasiums. The wattages of vandal proof lights range from high to low and come in fluorescent, metal halide and high pressure sodium options. Landscape lighting can create a wonderful night time ambiance while providing security at the same time.

Commercial outdoor lighting is available for: pathways, streets, parking structures, signs, patios and decks. Post and post top lighting is also available in both traditional and decorative options. With so many designs and types of lighting from which to choose, the right lighting can add beauty, warmth and class to any business or commercial building.
